Goats for Gifts

About Us

Betsy, David and a goat friend. David and Betsy Kain are both retired. They lived in Pittsburgh for 32 years. David was a bank executive and Betsy worked as a clinical social worker. They have two adult children and three granddaughters.

Rebecca Tinsley asked the Kains to volunteer in Rwanda in 2006. Betsy and a team of psychotherapists trained Rwandans to help them cope with the psychological trauma from the genocide and teach these methods to others.

While there, they learned of the need for Holstein cows which would give milk and produce calves. Their church, All Saints by the Sea Episcopal Church in Santa Barbara, CA, gave money for five Holsteins. The total has reached fourteen with several healthy calves. Funds have been raised for over 2,000 goats.

Betsy has returned to Rwanda four additional times. The latest trip was completed in February 2010.
